Lijnen en stippen
In 2008 begon ik met het aanbrengen van een prachtige rode ondergrond. De zwarte lijnen zette ik er rechthoek voor rechthoek bij op het doek.
De kinderen vragen regelmatig om eens een schilderij zonder stippen te maken. Ik probeer het wel, maar soms voelt het gewoon niet af. Ook bij dit doek volgden de stippen bijna als vanzelf.
Wanneer ik dan begin met het aanbrengen van de stippen, is het ook altijd nog maar de vraag of ik op tijd kan stoppen. Dit schilderij voelt voor mij goed omdat het niet vol met dots staat. Terwijl ik tegelijkertijd andere schilderijen heb gemaakt die net zo goed aanvoelen maar waarbij enkel de zijkanten stippenvrij zijn. Heel subjectief dus.
Ik bedenk me net dat één van mijn laatste schilderijen waar ik aan gewerkt heb (2014), eigenlijk volgens dezelfde manier is opgezet. Dit keer met een donkerbruine ondergrond, witte lijnen en stippen. Qua compositie was ik er wel tevreden mee, maar ik heb dat doek toen aan de kant gezet omdat ik iets met meer kleuren wilde maken. Er staan dus wel al lijnen op, maar nog geen stippen.
Het doek met de vele kleuren staat op de grond tegen een muur op mijn slaapkamer, om het tegen de poezen te beschermen. Het is al voorzien van een ondergrond van knallende kleuren met daarover heen ronde, organische lijnen. Heel anders dan het donkere schilderij met de rechte lijnen. Helaas is de lijst krom getrokken omdat ik het ruim een jaar op de ezel heb laten staan.
Warm rood
Rond dezelfde tijd als ik het schilderij van het bovenstaande detail maakte, ben ik ook met een ander schilderij gestart. Opnieuw koos ik voor een warme rode ondergrond om mee te beginnen. Ik was zo blij met de ontstane kleur, dat ik dit schilderij nooit verder heb afgemaakt. Er staat sindsdien een prachtig rood vierkant vlak tegen de muur. Nog steeds vind ik het zonde om er iets overheen te zetten. Misschien later nog eens, als ik groot ben.
***UPDATE*** Het schilderij met de warme rode ondergrond is in 2017 alsnog voorzien van dotjes.
