Description
Connection became the central idea during my creation of this large dot painting of 90 by 70 centimeters.
I laid the foundation by applying the bottom layer with the colours bronze, red, orange and yellow. By blending these, your eyes are drawn inwards, towards the yellow, the lightest part. As always, after making a background I love, I asked myself whether I should paint dots on it. And once I started dotting, I asked myself if I would leave a part of the canvas free of dots. You can see for yourself how that ended. Not an inch left of undotted canvas.
By placing a few white dots, the idea of making circles came into being, also inspired by a painting I made earlier in 2017. That painting is a smaller version in cooler colours: blue, pink and red. To avoid using the same idea entirely, I went looking for something new to add. These became the connecting paths between the circles, creating connection. The connected circles form a garland, starting at the bottom right on the outside and then all the way up to the yellow core.
This painting almost forces you to look inside. A piece of peace and introspection, connection between the outside and the inside.
While painting, I soon discover that I have a preference for a landscape or portrait version. With this painting, I prefer the lying position, with the light core at the top right. But you can hang it differently if you prefer. One of the photos, with ‘Connection’ standing, is a bit lighter in colour. This is due to the use of flash light. The other photos show the warm colours better.
